“Positive Stay at Matum”
Although the exterior of the hotel is awash in the neon lights of the billboard, the interior really maintains it’s historic roots while offering a nice clean place to rest your head. The rooms are well kept, and the bed was quite comfortable. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely helpful in directing me to places of interest in Santiago, and it was convenient having a casino and disco connected to the hotel. Though I’ve read other reviewers complain about the noise, it was never really something I noticed (maybe it’s ’cause I’m from NY). I had a room halfway down the hall on the second floor, and could not hear any sounds coming from the street.

The location was also a definite plus as the hotel was within walking distance of the monument, and surrounding bars/restaurants. Returning to the hotel after a day of exploring was quite easy as every taxista seemed to know the hotel. If staying at the hotel, also make sure to take a look at the photos in the 2nd floor lobby that show off the history of the hotel (interesting little gallery).

Pros: Friendly/helpful staff, clean rooms, and good location
Cons: My room did not include a safe and the selection at the complimentary breakfast was a bit limited
Would definitely stay again.
